Helping to fill the hungry with good things

Churches that Care: Tuesday Meal

On April 28th, St. John’s began hosting a free community meal for anyone who is hungry. Currently, 60 meals are prepared each week and are available from 5:00 pm until 6:15 pm or until the food is gone. The distribution site is on the south side of the building on 5th St. between 1st and 2nd Ave SW. All meals are to-go, please do not get out of your vehicle if you drive up. We will bring the food to you.

We have been very fortunate to have not had a significant weather disruption so far. Plans are being made to have indoor (dine in) options as well as carry out options as fall/winter approaches. We are continuing to explore traffic patterns and accessibility.

Community Partners that have provided meals are:

United Presbyterian Church

First Congregational United Church of Christ

New Life Church

Elizabeth Kapp and Team

Trinity Lutheran Church

Grace Episcopal Church

St. John’s Lutheran Church

The Sandwich Project has ended- for 7 weeks beginning in mid-March 2020, St. John’s offered a free bag lunch for anyone in the community who is hungry. As businesses reopened, unemployment checks arrived, and pandemic payments were received, the need for the meals dropped to a point where the Tuesday evening hot meals made more sense.
